CARE & CLEANING OF YOUR BARNWOOD TABLE
WIPING & WASHING
While you chose the reclaimed wood table as a solid, sturdy, virtually indestructible option for your dining room table, it is important to take proper care of this piece of furniture to ensure that it lasts for lifetimes after. We recommend wiping with a damp cloth, either using soap and water or a natural based cleaning solution. Most standard cleaning solutions contain either an alcohol or ammonia base, which over an extended period of time, can eat through the finish.
At Homestead, we also use low sheen urethane finishes. Common furniture cleaners such as Pledge furniture polish may actually leave a glossy, often uneven residue over your table’s surface. If used frequently and consistently, the low sheen finish will be difficult to recover. We recommend using *Original Bee’s Wax spray polish. We’ve found this is the best polish, as it leaves no wax buildup and preserves the natural beauty of the barnwood and prevents dryness.
WATER MARKS & SPILLS
Watermarks and spills should be well protected with our hi-build polyurethane finish. However, we still recommend wiping up all spills as quickly as possible. If it is an alcoholic product, the odds of it leaving a ring go up significantly. Use hot pads for high-temperature items, and while the use of coasters and placemats is not necessary when dining at the table, these are extra layers of protection against any unwanted damage.
SCUFFS & SCRATCHES
Scuffs, light scratches, and dings are inevitable on the surface as this table grows with your family. We believe that some scratches over time tell a story. Sharp utensils, abrasives, and pointy objects can scratch or dent the table’s surface, so please use caution to avoid deep surface scratches. In the event your table acquires a large scratch, it can be masked by applying a similar stain color to your table.
Your table is a living piece of history with tons of character expressing its past life. It will continue to evolve. Due to the age of the wood and changes in atmospheric conditions, it is expected that some small cracking may occur over time. To avoid excessive changes – Avoid direct sunlight and always lift your furniture to move it – do not drag. Embrace the character and don’t be afraid to allow your table to continue to write its next story and grow with your family!
